Sulphur is naturally occurring and is the 8th most abundant element of periodic table. It’s found at number 16; Row 3 on right side of the periodic table.

“Sulphur comes from volcanoes and is good for eruptions” and sulphur is associated in ideas with Lake of fire and Everlasting burning.

  – M.L Tyler

Sulphur and human body

  • Keratin is sulphur containing protein important for healthy hair, nails and skin.
  • Sulphur is important for synthesis of collagen which gives it strength and structure to skin
  • Sulphur is required to produce two of the essential amino acids.
  • Sulphur is necessary for insulin production.
  • Sulphur is present in one of the antioxidants which prevents cell damage.

Sphere of action of Sulphur

  1. Circulation

Sulphur causes irregular distribution of circulation which causes local burning. There is throbbing and congestion of affected part with redness of orifices.

2. Defective reaction

  • When carefully selected remedies fail to act, especially in acute diseases
  • Complaints that relapse
  • Used in beginning of the treatment of chronic case

3. Nutrition

Nutrition is affected on account of defective assimilation, inspite of voracious appetite

Study of Sulphur through Rubrics

Sulphur patients have refined intellect along with curiosity. Dwelling to this curiosity makes them master of their field and question the science. Master Hahnemann was dissatisfied with the practice of medicine at that time and questioned it. His INTELLECTUAL and INQUISITIVENESS is the reason for discovery of homeopathy. Sulphur goes against his own system, questions it and wants to know more about the other part of the system, the opposite part and people try to ridicule him. That was the journey of Dr Hahnemann.

Sulphur has the ability to dwell into unknown facets and they do a lot of study about it. Many scientists will come under this remedy due PHILOSOPHICAL THINKING ABILITY. Mechanical thinking does not mean you are devoid of emotions but keeping emotion subdued. When working on intricate matters, they have the ability to correlate things and chain of events; in order to function well. They connect various aspects together like corporate employees, scientists, researchers. If one thing is functioning, how the other thing can be made to function, how to make it go on in a smooth pattern. With these qualities in mind, Sulphur can be good in politics. There are different political parties and how these parties connect for the betterment of society.

Sulphur has the ability and they like to show it; and has a lot of possession (DELUSION; ABUNDANCE OF EVERYTHING) and knows how to use their possession. Having wealth but not knowing how to use it; makes it a useless game. Sulphur knows how to use his resources in the most productive way. Hypocrisy of sulphur, if you want to live in this world you need to know the tactics, and deal with people very effectively.

Theme of Sulphur goes around being disgraced or scorned. This feeling can be seen in different aspect be it in relationship or work or looks or knowledge. This feeling stems from having a strong EGO. Ego is a blind attachment to the image of ourselves we carry around in our head. Egoist try to maintain and enhance favourable views of oneself

Sulphur wants to know all the things talked about and in case if they don’t know something they theorise. It feels insulting and humiliating to not know about something.

Sulphur wants to have good opinion from others which makes him very benevolent and reverent to others. They are very good in their relationships with family and friends. Caring and going out of way to do lot for others. But when this is not reciprocated or appreciated, he feels put down and scorned. With this scorned feeling, they might develop indifference to way they dress up or business or life or surrounding or pleasure.

Understanding of Sulphur through periodic table, sensation and personal evolution method by Dr Preety Shah

Sulphur is on right side of Row 3 of the periodic table. The main issues in Row 3 is of developing one’s identity and expressions of it; like image, choice and ego. Row 3 follows separation and birth; an extended womb stage where the child is dependent on the mother, care giver for everything – for food, nourishment, warmth, love, protection and care.

Case 4: Following case excerpt is take from Dictionary of Practical materia medica by J H Clarke

Villers (H. R., xv. p. 563) relates the case of a girl, 22, afflicted since three years old with eczemas of the most varied form, mostly moist, the chief seat being the region about the pudenda, armpits, fold behind ear; but the whole body was defaced, the only parts which had remained white and normal being the breasts. She had been continuously under treatment for the nineteen years, the worst effects resulting when external applications had been used to dry up the eruption. Then most frightful asthma occurred, which lasted till the corrosive, ill-smelling eruption appeared again. She had recently come under the care of a homśopath, who gave Ars. iod. 3. From this there resulted a condition of which the patient said, “I cannot describe it, but I felt as if I was being killed.” Her doctor then sent her to Villers, who sent her for three months to a water-cure before he would commence treatment. Her general health was somewhat improved thereby, but the skin remained the same. He then thought of some very high potencies he possessed, and gave a few pellets of Sul. cm. Three days later he was sent for in a great hurry late one evening, and on arrival found the patient had torn off all her clothes, was rolling about on the floor of her room, continually trying to rub her back and her legs on the legs of chairs or the edge of the door. Then she jumped up, brought a knife from the kitchen and scraped her whole body; would eat nothing and only drank enormous quantities of cold beverages. This lasted five days, after which she slept for two full days. Then this happened: The eruption dried up completely and scaled as after scarlatina. The girl had always had very weak menses; the next three were increasingly strong and intolerably fetid. There was very disagreeable discharge from the ears, corrosive secretion from the eyelids, and a dreadfully tormenting and burning discharge from the pudenda, strongly exciting to voluptuousness. Under the action of the single dose steady improvement occurred, and in four months she was a youthfully blooming maiden in the full flow of all her functions, and the skin in perfect condition. To test this Villers made the patient wear rough wool; dip her hands in first hot and then cold water; and for two weeks he made her rub her body daily with pretty coarse sea-salt.
