An expedition with Hypothyroidism & On my Way Back!

Food & Recipes, Personal Journey/Story

A patient’s honest experience of Hypothyroidism and a quick guide for other thyroid patients!

I have been a hypothyroid patient since 2014. I was 26 and it all started with constant tiredness for days together and I wouldn’t know why. I was putting on weight, and my face was suddenly puffy as others noticed. I was losing hair so fast, and my skin was getting dry. I ignored it for months assuming it was temporary and probably as a kind of body adjustment to my new city, new home, and new family.

I got married in 2013, from the magnificent city of Jaipur, I came to the opulent city of Mumbai. From an independent working dance teacher back at moms to a full-time, dedicated wife and a daughter-in-law. It was a lavish, fairy-tale wedding, with beautiful dresses, expensive presents, a big house, and a lovely spouse. I pursued dance as my passion and profession before marriage and now suddenly I was not. My only role was to ensure the breakfast was ready for all, my house was clean, my in laws had their medicines on time and the bed was ready after an exhaustive, tiring day and I have to be all prepped up and geared up for the next day’s routine.

As I was starting to calibrate myself to the new job title of an ever-smiling wife, and the always-pleasing daughter-in-law, I didn’t know how slowly these were seeping into me quietly. Eventually, it didn’t make sense, I was tired of living up to the expectations of an “Adarsh Bahu”. I faced anxiety, overwhelming stress, and a deep frustration and anger boiling down in my mind.

Slowly, my body took over and gave me all the hints that things are not quite right here. Fatigue, headache, constipation, muscle pains, weakness, and menstrual disturbances. I had palpitations often and slowly, I started to feel depressed.

My husband dotingly took me to a doctor, who was quite good at his diagnosis, and asked for the tests to confirm his suspicion. But unfortunate as I was, I was started on Eltroxin, the lowest dose. And things started spiraling down ever since then. And for 5 long years, my body was subjected to doses and doses of synthetic hormones.

Adding to my woes, was the pressure of being pregnant, and a whole chapter of hormonal treatments began. After 2 more years, in 2019, I thought I was done, it felt like the end of the world. With failures and struggles with health, I was devastated.

But as fate would have it, a friend of mine, suggested I meet Drs. Preety & Dr. Prajakta. “A person often meets his destiny on the road he took to avoid it.” I never thought that I will ever take Homeopathy for my thyroid issues, partly because I didn’t know the system, and partly because of how firmly the conventional treatment was instilled in our heads until one fine day when I visited their clinic Healing Harmony Homeopathy & More!

It was definitely more than just a clinic; it was a spiritual experience in itself. As I was ushered to the consulting room by the cooperative staff, I had a one-to-one whole hearted talk with the doctors. They patiently listened to my whole life history, my past, and my family history. I spoke to the doctor-duo like a child expressing every detail of my life.

And then they explained to me how Homeopathy restores the thyroid function, how it springs back to life producing hormones naturally, once it is stimulated by Homeopathy. They told me how Homeopathy improves the metabolism and normalizes the hormones.

After the Homeopathy consultation, I was given some medicines. Starting with first dose was like a refreshing experience for me, I felt lighter in my mind in just the first week. Was it the dose or their counseling, I don’t know, but it was definitely miraculous! My health started improving with Homeopathy. The fatigue, and tiredness, all started fading away. My anxiety and palpitations reduced. Overall, I was so much better!

Some sessions later, they led me to Chakra Healing as it was therapeutic for me. The thyroid gland is related to the Throat Chakra or the Vishuddha Chakra, which represents an expression of oneself, creativity, and communication.

They sensed my throat chakra was blocked, it needed healing and opening of the blockages. And I realized, how I had stopped expressing myself and had blocked my creativity for so many years. This experience was life-changing.

There were many more sessions of meditation, there were diet consultations, and some tips on yoga. Everything was just perfect. I could feel my journey to freedom. I could feel more expressive and creative and definitely a lot healthy.

My allopathy doses were reduced, I was losing weight healthily and my cycles were getting regular. Two years later, I got pregnant naturally. Now I was only on their treatment and nothing else. And to this day, as I write this article and share my experience, I am a mother of a beautiful, healthy daughter.

My thyroid journey has taught me a lot to me and I would love to share it with others who are going through the same.

  • Listen to yourself. Be in tune with your feelings and emotions.
  • Acknowledge and accept your emotions. Experience the knots and unfold them.
  • Focus on how your body reacts, breathe, let it go!
  • Express yourself. Be creative. Sing, Dance, Write. Run. Just be active.
  • Thyroid is not the end of the world. Educate yourself. Incline toward holistic healing
  • Respect your body. Eat healthily. And Exercise!
  • And for Thyroid’s sake, Take Homeopathy. It is genuinely effective, safe, and natural.

I no longer force things. What flows, flows. What crashes, crashes. I only have space and energy for the things that are meant for me. And I am having a great time with my family and with my lovely little daughter. And I am thankful to God, that I met these two lovely ladies, angels in disguise, doctors-cum therapists, counselor cum healers Drs. Preety Shah & Dr. Prajakta Vaidya and I will always be grateful.
