The human being is guided by the Pain-Pleasure principle. He avoids pain and seeks pleasure in one way or the another. Use of defense mechanisms is a part of sticking to the pleasure zone.
Defense mechanisms are a natural part of psychological development. They are a way for the mind to cope with stress or difficult feelings. They can be positive or unhelpful. They operate at an unconscious level and help ward off unpleasant feelings such as anxiety, worry, depression, etc. or make good things feel better for the individual.
Defense mechanisms are unique to every individual and they operate as a part of a particular personality. They may become fixed as part of a symptom formation (consistent dispositional character).
The types of defense mechanisms range from shifting blame to shutting down.
The defense mechanisms are typical to a person; rather defense mechanisms reflect the personality of a person. Hence, after analyzing the life of a person in terms of his characters, habits, dispositions, emotions, intellectual faculties, experiences in his life, etc., it is possible to derive and focus upon the defenses used by a person and remedy selection can be made on the basis of defense mechanisms.
Defense mechanism, thus, becomes one of the important tools of data processing in homeopathy.
Recognizing defense mechanisms can help a homeopath understand the patient’s personality and behavior.
Dr Ajit Kulkarni, a well-known teacher, will offer his study of co-relating defense mechanisms with homeopathy through psycho-analysis, personality study, Materia medica, Repertorial rubrics and illustrative cases.
This is for the first time that a comprehensive study will be presented to the homeopathic profession through six sessions each of two hours.
Exploration and use of the holistic aspects of an emerging science and art of homeopathy are the need of the hour.
Every homeopath needs powerful tools to meet the modern complex patients who are demanding and challenging.
